Actions in Video
Speech Therapist, Geraldine Moran approached Coding Fury with the task of building an app to aid students, primarily children, with special educational needs.
Once purchased, the app would have to work offline since many schools still don’t have full Wi-Fi coverage, and all the media assets would have to be stored locally on the device. This would include video, a massive bank of bespoke illustrations and audio tracks.
It was envisaged that many of the students using this app would have quite severe learning difficulties, so the big challenge was to make an app that was very simple to use and minimalist in terms of look and feel.
Actions in Video is a tool to teach a child every day action words and includes over 49 core actions. Each action has three different videos to help a child develop a better understanding of the action. The actions were chosen based on research from the MacArthur Bates Communicative Development Inventories and the Down Syndrome Vocabulary Worksheets.
The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists gave this app a 5 star rating saying, “This easy-to-use app delivers a fresh and innovative way to work on sentence construction skills.” – Nov 2014 Bulletin
Gravity Bread said, “I have found this app to be so useful and motivating!” in their review.
This includes native iOS and Android software development, or mobile web apps.
